The following is a brief description from the Rooted Vermont Event promoter:

Why Vt, why Gravel?

A NOTE FROM TED & LAURA

I was talking bikes with an older Vermonter over coffee. When I explained to him that “gravel” is now the fastest growing segment of cycling he chuckled and replied, “Really? But we’ve been riding our bikes on gravel roads for decades!

Rooted Vermont will offer two course lengths of 45 or 85 miles, both are ~70% dirt and 3500’ or 8000’ of climbing. The race will begin in our hometown of Richmond, traveling south through the heart of the Green Mountains towards Ripton. Some of the gravel will be silky smooth, some sections, called Class 4 or pavé, will be more rugged.

The course and the after party have been designed to showcase the way life has always been in Vermont: it’s a place where the value of hard work is upheld and connection to the land is steadfast. When we ride here, the bucolic pastures, verdant mountains, and red barns make us feel deeply connected to something greater than ourselves. The course will challenge you physically while the culture of community here in Vermont will buoy you.

After 45 or 85 miles of Vermont’s best gravel, what awaits is a pure Vermont summer party. Finishing at the base of Cochran’s ski area, also home to UnTapped Maple and Slopeside Syrup, you’ll enjoy excellent Rooted in Vermont food, IPA, maple creemees, and the Vermont community that has a way of welcoming everyone.

We hope you’ll join us on July 29-31,

Ted and Laura King
