The following is a brief description from The Mammoth Gravel Grind Event promoter:
A gravel ride of MAMMOTH proportions…This is SELF SUPPORTED, meaning you must carry your own water, vittles, and repair essentials while on the bike, water bottle refill stops will be approx. 30 miles apart. This ride consists of two separate 63 mile loops. Each loop has approximately 6500 ft. of elevation gain. Both loops begin and end in Wellsboro, PA. on The Green. Because of this fact it will be easy to grab lunch and re-supply in Wellsboro at the end of the first loop before you begin the second loop.
We will be rolling out of The Green at 7AM sharp. Once you finish Loop 1 you will be back in Wellsboro next to The Green. At this time you can grab lunch which is included and consists of; Pulled Pork BBQ, Mac ‘n Cheese, Broccoli Salad, Slider Bun and Iced Tea. It will be grab and go style provided courtesy of the Red Skillet Restaurant.
After you complete lunch if you feel up to it embark on Loop 2. If you are not able to start Loop 2 in a reasonable amount of time we don’t recommend that you continue as you may be finishing well after dark and that will not be safe.
For those that would like to compete a collection of STRAVA segments will be created and the individual with the least amount of accrued time will receive the MGG trophy there will be a Male and Female category.
This event will happen rain or shine. Please bring a headlight and tail light as well just for added safety and in case you finish the ride after dark. Also it should go without saying but PLEASE protect your noggin and wear a helmet!
