The following is a brief description from the Trans North Georgia Adventure Event promoter:

The TNGA is a 350 mile mountain bike route through the mountains of North GA on trails, forest roads and paved roads featuring challenging terrain, beautiful scenery, and approximately 56,000 feet of climbing. In the Notes section of this page you will find a history of the route development, and inaugural race, by David Muse. David, along with encouragement and help from others, is deservedly credited to creating the original route. We try to stick as closely to this original route as possible each year. The route only changes due to those absolutely required by the USFS, Mother Nature, or other influences.

This is a difficult route and not for the faint of heart. The route is tough any time of year, but is compounded by the traditional start of the 3rd Saturday in August of each year.It would be difficult to name all the people that have devoted themselves to this race over the years in volunteer time, resources, trail maintenance, rider assistance via neutral support, and simply fans.David’s original inspiration has inspired a countless number of people over the years to do something that helps ordinary people become extraordinary. We are all thankful for all those volunteers, and any rider that even dares toe the start line over the Chattooga River on the GA/SC border. And we salute the ones that have screamed, cried, hung their head in thankful silence, prayed, or got a big hug from a friend, at the GA/AL border on Hwy 20!
