Riding into the Memorial Day weekend with some fantastic weather! Speaking of which, we recently got out on some Rothrock State Forest gravel and rocks, I mean trails. In this Social Media Shares: Rothrock State Forest Gravel/MTB Route w/ Tussey Ridge Trails, we share that route (and a shorter version).
In the past, I raced the Wilderness 101 and explored the trails around Bald Knob and Coopers Gap, but had never hit Tussey Ridge. Decided to change that last week, and put together a route with a few of my favorite Rothrock gravel bits and add in the Tussey Mountain Trail and John Wert Path, two classics on Tussey Ridge. It was a good (although bumpy) one!
The long version is linked below. Pressed on time? You can skip some of the gravel and follow the short version. Tip: Ride the long version if you can. The Laurel Run Road descent to Whipple Dam State Park is eight miles of perma-grin, and one of the best you will find!
Wanna race in this area? Check out the Trans-Sylvania Epic Stage Races events that happen in May and August (the Tussey Ridge MTB stage is today/gravel stage race in August), the Seasons of Rothrock events all year (Tussey race is in December), and Shenandoah Mountain Touring’s Wilderness 101 in July (100-mile/100k MTB races).
