Spring festivals? Yes, please! For those who have never heard, every February, Pennsylvania’s most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil tells us whether he sees his shadow. This is suppose to determine whether we will experience six more weeks of winter. Let’s just say that this prediction is less than definitive. Regardless of what the little critter predicts, March bike festivals clearly mark the end (or beginning of the end) of winter in the U.S. In this Events Spotlight – Spring Festivals Edition, we highlight the events and promoters that give us something to look forward to despite any bad news Phil provides.
What is a bike festival?
Bike festivals come in a variety of flavors, so to speak. The “classic” festivals have an expo area, cycling-specific vendors/exhibitors, bike demos, food and beverage vendors, and music. They may have group rides, but usually don’t have a marquee race associated with them. Others center around a race, but also have vendors, music, and a party-like atmosphere at race HQ. Some sprinkle in camping, clinics, and the like. No matter the type, all of these events are sure to bring you two things: bikes and a good party!
In 2019, JB attended the Santos Fat Tire Festival. This festival was top-notch! Given its early March dates, it allowed him to escape the cold weather of PA and enjoy sunny Florida! The festival was well run and attended. There were a variety of vendors/exhibitors and bike demos from many brands. It also didn’t hurt that the festival takes place at the IMBA certified Santos trails. Highly recommend this festival! JB hopes to get back next year to participate in the EPIC 50 ride that takes place on Saturday of the festival.
Regardless of which festival you choose, we are sure that you will have a great time playing bikes!
